Change your story
Financial Literacy Campaign on Public Transport · World Savings Day 2025
In the context of World Savings Day, observed on October 31st, the NOVA Financial Markets Knowledge Centre, the Knowledge Centre of Nova School of Law, has just launched the “Change Your Story” campaign, a financial literacy initiative that aims to make financial knowledge accessible to all citizens.
The campaign, which will be available on public transport in Lisbon and Almada — namely on the Lisbon Metro, Carris and Fertagus — aims to invite passengers to use their waiting time on public transport to learn useful and essential tips about financial and banking literacy, via their mobile phones, by scanning the QR Code available on posters and advertising panels.
The goal is to democratise access to financial information, using simple and straightforward language, encouraging more informed everyday decisions.
“The focus on public transport is linked to the fact that most people use public transport, particularly the most disadvantaged, who need greater protection, since their level of financial literacy tends to be lower. As such, we believe that sharing this type of information on public transport is essential.”
The five themes of the campaign:
- The risks of taking on the role of guarantor
- Renegotiating service contracts as a tool for rebalancing the household budget (water, electricity, gas, internet, among others)
- The risks of fraud
- The possibility of having a basic banking services account, avoiding the payment of high bank fees
- Credit consolidation, combining all loans into a single monthly payment
More than conveying concepts, this initiative aims to raise awareness of the social and legal importance of making informed financial decisions — from opening a bank account to deciding between paying upfront or on credit, or agreeing to act as a guarantor.
